• Victoria Scarlett, Director

  • Victoria specializes in the understanding, appreciation, and history of sacred art, its visual culture, and its place in devotional and meditative practices. Her teaching balances scholarly rigor and respect for tradition with a genuine passion for the ways sacred art can speak to, and inspire, individuals today.

She comes from a family of artists and designers, where creativity was woven into the fabric of daily life. Those early experiences led her to a career in art that has deepened steadily over the years. Starting out as a practicing artist—her artwork has been shown internationally—she realized that her greatest passion is in guiding others to explore and appreciate art. Her firsthand knowledge of art materials, techniques, and the creative process have been a great asset in the guidance of students.

In 2000 Victoria founded the Center for Sacred Art with her husband, Joseph Anderson. The Center brings together everything she cares about most: her deep spirituality, her love of teaching, her interest in interfaith and cross-cultural study, and her fascination with universal archetypes. She develops programs that seek an integrative understanding of the human experience, spirituality, and sacred art traditions of the world.  She especially values the ways visual art can contribute to the creative transformation of planetary consciousness at this critical time in human evolution.

Victoria is known for her warm-hearted teaching style that brings together inspiration with a love of beauty. An engaging and knowledgeable speaker, she makes multicultural subjects—whether spiritual, aesthetic, or art historical—both accessible and compelling. She has taught in a variety of settings throughout the Northwest, in settings ranging from spirituality and retreat centers to cathedrals, universities, museums, and conferences.  She has served as a docent at museums in San Francisco and Seattle, and curated educational exhibits at the university level for a decade. Victoria’s training as an art educator includes an M.A. in Art History from the University of Washington, an M.A. in Museum Studies specializing in the interpretation of art from John F. Kennedy University, and a B.A. in Studio Art from San Francisco State University.
