Do you find yourself ready to reflect on your life? Are you facing life changes and would like a fresh perspective?
In this evening's program you'll be introduced to Soul Cartography, a set of drawing exercises for mapping the dimensions and directions of your personal story. In this program we'll look at the many ways a life map - capturing your life experience in two-dimensional space - can help you better understand the hidden depths and mysterious corners of your life.
Like any other map, a map of your life can help orient you, and show you where you've been and where you want to go, We'll consider the dimensions of experience that can be mapped: geographic space, chronology, and the less-visible regions of soul and spirit. We'll look at a variety of creative techniques for freeing the mind and the imagination to think about our lives in this spatial way. Finally, there will be an overview of the Soul Cartography drawing exercises, which will be taught in more detail in a series of hands-on drawing workshops beginning February 7.
For inspiration, there'll also be a slide presentation that looks at forests as places of journey, landscape, and narrative. This psycho-poetic reflection explores the symbolism of forests in fairy tales and their place in mythical journeys. The images include delightful fairy tale illustrations, as well as contemporary magical realist paintings. We'll see how in experience (as well as in imagination) forests are a place of challenges and danger, but also magic, blessing and transformation.
This Jan 31st event is an introduction to the 4-week evening class in Soul Cartography beginning Tuesday, February 7, 2017. For more information about the upcoming Soul Cartography class (including details on individual sessions, comments from students who've participated, and Joseph's blogging on the subject) see Joseph's website.
