Gregorian Chant RETREATS
CSA offers a weekend residential Gregorian chant retreat twice a year, usually in mid-January and late July. It's an opportunity to more deeply experience the practice of chant while observing from morning to night many of the periods of daily chant that have been practiced in monasteries since the Middle Ages: Lauds, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline.

Winter 2007 Gregorian Chant Retreat
We gather every January and July at St. Andrew's House, a beautiful retreat center located on Washington state's Hood Canal, in a wonderful woodland setting. Chant takes place in a private chapel where we sing the monastic Divine Office (eleven services in all), from Vespers and Compline on the first evening to Sext (noon prayer) on the final day. Each retreat has a particular theme. For Winter 2007 we will be singing chants in honor of the archangel Michael. Throughout, we immerse ourselves in prayer, contemplation, and sacred time. In between our chanted prayers there are teaching sessions where you learn new chants and explore their deeper spiritual meanings in a welcoming multifaith context. You'll also have opportunities for silent reflection and walks in nature. Previous chant or singing experience is helpful but not necessary.
